‘The earth is all before me’, declared Wordsworth in joy when he found himself walking alone towards Grasmere in 1799, and it was here that he made his home. He moved into Dove Cottage with his sister Dorothy on 20 December that year and they lived in Grasmere and Rydal, along with his wife and children, for the rest of their lives. See the places he lived and wrote about, and visit his grave in the churchyard, with a circular walk around the village.

This walk is organised and led by the Lake District National Park in partnership with the Wordsworth Trust. This route is graded easy and is 3.7 miles (6km), which should take approximately 2 hours. Please wear comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing and footwear.
