On Thursday afternoons in the school holidays we explore life in Dove Cottage and the Lake District in Wordsworth’s time through creative art and crafts activities.  This summer you can have a go at a wide variety of things, from making paper flowers to learning how to make a rag rug to constructing your own Dove Cottage from papier-mâche.

Old houses like Dove Cottage didn’t have modern luxuries like carpets and central heating to help keep them warm so people often used rag rugs and woven throws to cover cold stone floors.  We still use them in Dove Cottage today.  In this session we will learn how to rag rug before doing our own take on this tradition by ‘rag rugging’ and weaving with a range of different craft materials.

Activities for children age 3+ with their families.
