At the end of April and the beginning of May 2017 visual artist Zoe Benbow and poet Sarah Corbett spent several weeks in residence at The Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere. Their brief was to walk in the footsteps of Dorothy Wordsworth as she wrote her Grasmere Journal over two hundred years ago. Focusing on Dorothy’s use of colour in her writing, Sarah and Zoe set out to create a ‘conversation’ in paintings, drawings and poetry, through images, dreams and encounters with nature and the landscape. The resulting collaborative work, Dorothy’s Colour, will be on show at the Wordsworth Trust Museum from August 7th – September 16th 2017.

In this exhibition event, Zoe and Sarah will discuss their collaboration in conversation with Grasmere based poet Polly Atkin, followed by a Dorothy Wordsworth inspired poetry reading by Sarah and Polly.

Cost: free, donations welcome. Refreshments included.

Sarah Corbett has four collections of poetry, most recently, And She Was(Pavilion Poetry/Liverpool University Press, 2015), and her fifth collection, A Perfect Mirror, is forthcoming in 2018; the title poem is a response to Dorothy Wordsworth’s Grasmere Journal. Sarah teaches Creative Writing for Lancaster University.

Zoe Benbow graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1989 and has centred her career in studio practice. Based in London and often in France she has undertaken six international residencies, other UK programs and twenty solo shows alongside many group exhibitions. Work is represented in corporate and public collections including Queen Mary University of London, The British Council and Manchester City Art Gallery.
