It has become an annual tradition to spend the first Saturday afternoon of the year with Grasmere History Group, reviewing and celebrating the research and discoveries made by the group in the previous year.  There will be a series of short talks by group members followed by an informal discussion of ideas for the forthcoming year over tea and coffee.

Our speakers this year are:

Sally Hall on the flowers of Grasmere loved by the Wordsworths, and as represented in the writings of William and Dorothy.

Bob Bell and Janice Wilson from Duddon Valley History Group talking about their archaeological projects of 2017.

Jane Brimmer and Sarah Simpson talking about their ancestor, William Baldry of Grasmere, and his contribution to village life.

Josh King from Baylor University on the impact of meeting Grasmere History Group on his students when they visited Grasmere in the summer.

Keith Coates sharing his recollections of growing up in Grasmere. Keith’s talk delighted us with stories of great characters from 20th century Grasmere – and a lesson in how to catch bait with a bottle.
