At Dove Cottage, we celebrate poetry as a living tradition.

Wordsworth wrote of “youthful Poets, who among these hills / Will be my second self when I am gone”, and we work extensively with poets as part of our education and outreach activities, fostering creativity in people of all ages. We also host poetry readings and run a programme of short residencies.

Our residencies provide poets with an opportunity to connect with and be inspired by Wordsworth, Dove Cottage, the collection and the landscape of the Lake District. This programme is also a wonderful opportunity to undertake projects relating to the work of the Wordsworth Trust, such as leading sessions in schools and community groups. Poetry Readings

We host occasional poetry readings here at Dove Cottage featuring both established poets such as Simon Armitage and aspiring writers. Please keep an eye on our events page for more information.

This group changed my life at a time when I felt I had nothing left. I now love to write poetry, have won awards and been published, and was Poet in Residence at the Kendal Poetry and Lakes Alive festivals. I am now ‘a poet who uses a scooter’ rather than just ‘the disabled girl.’ I honestly don’t know what state my life would be in without this group
