Grasmere History Group meets monthly to discuss matters of local history. It is a very friendly, informal gathering at which we share our interests and ask questions of others who might know the answers we seek. New people from near or far are very welcome and we are always looking to meet more people with fascinating stories to tell about Grasmere and the Lake District.

Please join us on this special afternoon to hear Christine Shaw share her discoveries from the archive of Grasmere Sports, where local history from 1894 onwards will be revealed through newspapers and programmes.

We shall also show the film ‘Journeywoman: Walking in the Footsteps of Dorothy Wordsworth’ (premiered recently at Kendal Mountain Festival) in which Alex Jakob-Whitworth describes her experience of ‘being’ Dorothy Wordsworth over several months in 2018. The film shows what happened when Alex re-walked Dorothy’s Scafell Pike ascent of 200 years ago, a walk which featured on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. Alex will be with us to talk about what she has learnt about Dorothy by walking in her footsteps.
