Owing to the current circumstances we have decided to take a measured and responsible approach to our events. We have taken the decision to cancel this month’s meeting of Grasmere History Group, and we will welcome Angus JL Winchester to a future meeting.

Grasmere History Group meets monthly to discuss local history in a friendly gathering. New members from near or far are welcome, and a speaker or discussion topic is usually arranged in advance.

April’s guest speaker is Angus JL Winchester, author of The Language of The Landscape: A Journey into Lake District History (Handstand Press, 2019). After the talk there will be a Q&A and signing, and copies of the book will be on sale.

We have a wide range of interests: in recent years we have produced exhibitions about Grasmere in the First World War and the early years of tourism in the Lake District, and in 2019 we published Grasmere: A History in 55 1/2 Buildings.
