A must-see attraction for all Lake District visitors, this traditional Lakeland cottage, in the heart of Britain’s newest World Heritage Site, was the place where William Wordsworth produced the most famous and best-loved of his poems and his sister Dorothy wrote her fascinating Grasmere journal.

A standard group visit includes entry into Dove Cottage with an entertaining guided tour which gives a vivid impression of what day-to-day life would have been like for Wordsworth and his family; access into the Wordsworths’ delightful fell-side garden; admission to the Museum where Wordsworth’s remarkable life story is told through an incredible collection of original letters, journals and poems; and entry to special exhibitions. We also offer additional extra options, which can be anything from a talk in our state-of-the-art Reading Room to a behind-the-scenes tour of Dove Cottage…

Dove Cottage is a wonderful location in which to enhance classroom learning. The variety of activities, all linked by their connection to William Wordsworth and his poetry, offer a rich opportunity for visiting schools.
