Edward Lear - the Landscape Artist

This highly illustrated book focuses on Edward Lear's early years as a landscape artist.
By bringing together over 80 drawings, it provides the first detailed account of Lear's 1835 visit to Ireland and his trip to North Lancashire and the Lake District the following year.
The author draws extensively on a group of letters between Lear and his friends, the Coombes. They are published here, in full, for the first time.
The author, Charles Nugent is an independent art historian. He was formerly a curator at the Whitworth Art Gallery.
