You can enjoy lots of family friendly ways to explore Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum.
Discover Wordsworth’s inspirational home with your family and take part in trails which explore the site every school holiday and are linked to the temporary exhibition. Get stuck in to hands-on learning in our Family Activity Room with toys, art and antique objects to explore. The Museum features a range of interactive displays including the opportunity to write with quill and ink or make a Plasticene figurine.
Every week during holidays we offer Wild Walks on Wednesdays. Explore the area around Dove Cottage with our education team as we learn about the wild landscape of the Lake District, see what birds and animals we can spot and collect plant specimens for further examination. Hear extracts of Worsworth’s Poems and Dorothy’s journal as well as taking time to sketch and chat. Don’t forget your boots and waterproof jacket!
Join us on Thursday mornings during school holidays for our new early years sessions, Rucksack of Rhymes for children age 0-5 years. Explore a short extract or poem by Wordsworth through songs, rhymes and a story. Each week the rucksack contains toys, and sensory objects relating to the poem which can be explored by children and their parents or carers. There will be songs and stories for 30min followed by play time and craft activity.
Also look out for our Tales for Tots exploring life in Dove Cottage on Wednesday mornings every month.
As well as Wild Walks and activities for tots we run Family Fun workshops every holiday exploring a wide range of creative activities. From printing and hat making to bulb planting and haiku writing, join us to have fun and learn new skills for all the family.
All free with admission.
