Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum are located on the A591, the main Kendal–Keswick road through the central Lake District.

From the south, leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow the signs for Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside. Travel through Ambleside, following the A591 and continue for about four miles. Look for the big blue sign and our car park on the right hand side.

From the north, leave the M6 at Junction 40 and follow the A66 west towards Keswick. Just before Keswick,turn off on the A591 towards Ambleside and Windermere. Follow the A591 for 12 miles (do not turn right into Grasmere) and find our big blue sign and car park on the left, just after the mini-roundabout.

Public Transport

The nearest train station is Windermere (8 miles away) and there are regular buses from the south – service 555 or 599. Check the timetable. Reduced entry price for those arriving by bus.

Parking is available for cars and coaches for the duration of your visit. There is a small charge for parking. Bicycles can be locked to the cycle bars outside the former tearooms.
