Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As a mark of respect, Wordsworth Grasmere will be closed to visitors on Monday 19th September 2022, the day of the funeral.  For the latest information regarding opening hours and to book a ticket, please click here.
Throughout her long and illustrious reign HM The Queen was a stalwart supporter and enlightened patron of the arts in this country. As custodians of the legacy of the poet William Wordsworth, the Wordsworth Trust has always treasured its connection with the Royal Family, stretching back to Wordsworth’s appointment as Poet Laureate in 1843 and continuing to the present day in the person of our Royal Patron, HRH the former Prince of Wales.

On behalf of the Trustees, Fellows and staff of the Wordsworth Trust I send my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to HM King Charles III and HM The Queen Consort and members of the Royal Family. We join with the nation in mourning the passing of a truly remarkable monarch.

Chair of Trustees, the Wordsworth Trust
