Please donate now to help to keep this unique place special forever. We will receive the full amount of your donation, with no fees deducted.
By supporting our ongoing work, your donation will help fulfil Wordsworth’s wish: that his poetry would ‘live and do good’.
What your donation could support:
The Wordsworths called it their ‘domestic slip of mountain’. Historians have described it as ‘the most written-about quarter-of-an-acre in English literature’. Now, the Garden–Orchard behind Dove Cottage is maintained just as William and Dorothy Wordsworth lovingly created it.
Your £12 donation could buy two bags of compost for the Garden–Orchard.
In nearly one in five primary schools, children never have the opportunity to hear a poem read aloud. Our learning team visits about eighty schools a year, sparking an interest in reading and poetry that can last a lifetime.
Your £25 donation could meet the cost of our learning team visiting a school to lead a poetry workshop in a classroom.
Dove Cottage receives a fresh coat of limewash every five years. Limewash helps historic Lake District buildings like Dove Cottage breathe, preventing damp and giving them their distinctive white walls.
Your £60 donation could weatherproof half a square metre of Dove Cottage for five years.
We sustain reading, writing and creative activities for people of all ages across Cumbria, one of England’s largest and most sparsely populated counties.
Your £100 donation could pay for a poetry night in a local community centre.
