Planning your visit and family discounted tickets
We recommend buying your tickets in advance, as this will guarantee your spot on our semi-guided tour around Dove Cottage, which is the only timed part of the visit.
Family tickets (including a single adult option) are available and under 5s go free. View ticket prices here.
Tickets last for a whole year. This means you will have unlimited access across the site, including daily activities and temporary exhibitions, for 12 months from the purchase date.
Highlights
Step back in time with a visit to Dove Cottage. Your journey begins with a short atmospheric film before stepping into Dove Cottage where you can experience family life in the 1800s. Child-friendly handling baskets are available to keep the little ones engaged. Also, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the cheeky mice, Ditty and Dotty, hidden somewhere in the cottage.
Discover the Garden-Orchard and Woodland or explore further with one of our free family trails. Check out the enormous bug house and mini pond in the Sensory Garden or simply relax in the Moss Hut whilst the little ones play and explore our green spaces. You can find Sensory Story Sacks here, which are fun for all children, including those with SEND.
In the Museum explore the Art Cart with origami boat making, journaling and charades. Dress up like William and Dorothy. Sketch, compose poetry or even try your hand at quill and ink writing! For younger children we have bug books and Georgian toys. For the gamers, we even have our own Wordsworth Minecraft, a digital game based around Wordsworth’s childhood adventures.
