Access

We have a hearing loop in the Jerwood Centre for public events. While we’re not currently offering BSL signing for groups, if you are bringing a BSL interpreter on a group visit we would be very happy to work with them to make your visit a more successful one.

Portable amplifiers for use with hearing aids are available on request and the Museum is fitted with a hearing loop.

All films include a subtitle track.

Some parts of Dove Cottage have low levels of lighting to preserve the building and the collection.

Large print guides are available in the Museum.

There is a lift inside our Café, which is signposted from the Car Park, to take you up to the Museum and Ticket Desk. There is lift access to all floors of the Museum, including the Viewing Station.

Most wheelchairs will find the ground floor of Dove Cottage accessible. As the Cottage is a historical Grade I listed building, the stairs to the first floor mean that unfortunately we are unable to provide wheelchair access to the upstairs rooms.

Due to the nature of the terrain, the Garden-Orchard and Woodland have areas that are accessible only on foot (unfortunately it is too steep and uneven for wheelchairs, buggies and those with mobility issues). Please see this map for further details.

We have two designated parking bays for people with disabilities. Please note parking charges still apply.

We provide complimentary tickets for personal assistants. All staff have Dementia Friends training and annual refresher sessions.

Assistance dogs (hearing impaired, visually impaired and ASD) are welcome in all areas of our site.

All our toilets are individual lockable rooms with hand basins, which can be used by people of any gender. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum, Café, Learning Space and Jerwood Centre.

If there is anything that we can do to help you in your visit, or if you would like more information, please contact us by email on enquiries@wordsworth.org.uk or call 015394 35544.

For additional access support for children visiting either with families or school groups, please contact education@wordsworth.org.uk.
