An unmissable evening with the UK Poet Laureate in the heart of the Lake District.

Simon Armitage returns to Grasmere to read from a selection of his most-loved work. His streetwise humour, inventive use of conversational speech and eye for the extraordinary in the ordinary will make this evening an unforgettable experience.

The event will take place in The Daffodil Hotel, with stunning views of the lake and surrounding fells – and only a stone’s throw away from Dove Cottage, where former Poet Laureate William Wordsworth wrote some of his greatest poetry.

There will be a book signing after the reading, with copies of Simon Armitage’s books available to purchase (please bring cash).

Access and safety

Five free tickets are available for those experiencing financial hardship that would otherwise not be able to attend. This is on a first come first served basis with no questions asked about your situation. Please email Hannah at h.catterall@wordsworth.org.uk

Accompanying carers/personal assistants are admitted free of charge; please email Hannah before making a booking.

There is limited parking at the Daffodil Hotel & Spa. Parking is also available at Wordsworth Grasmere, directly across the road. There are several public car parks in Grasmere, as well as on-street parking, within 10-15 minutes walking distance of the hotel. We encourage you to park early so that you can reach the venue in plenty of time. Please arrive at the venue around 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start.

We continue to recommend that guests wear face coverings however it is not essential and we understand if our guests choose not to. If safety measures have changed by the time that the event is due to take place, we will contact attendees directly with updated guidance. If on the day of the event you are experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19, or are self-isolating, please do not attend.
