Event Details

Dove Cottage is full of the types of wonderful everyday items that the Wordsworth family used, from kettles and pans to children’s slippers and dolls. The new items we have on display include a range of lanterns based on those made in the Regency era. We know that William and Dorothy Wordsworth used a hand-held lantern: as Dorothy writes about it in her diary on 28 January 1802 – ‘Came home in the rain – very dark, came with a Lantern. William out of spirits & tired. After we went to bed I heard him continually he called at 1/4 past 3 to know the hour.’

This half term make your own Regency era hand-held lantern to brighten your home.  All materials including tea lights will be provided.  A staff member will be present, but social distancing from staff and other families will need to be maintained at all times.
