Star of stage and screen Larry Lamb will bring his poetry to Wordsworth Grasmere and Brantwood this autumn.
Both venues have powerful connections to some of Britain’s most revered writers. Wordsworth Grasmere, which encapsulates Dove Cottage, is the former residence of poet William Wordsworth. Meanwhile Brantwood was the home of celebrated Victorian writer and thinker John Ruskin.
Larry will appear at Wordsworth Grasmere on Wednesday 23 September 2026, before returning to Cumbria for an evening of dinner, poetry and conversation at Brantwood House & Gardens on Monday 5 October 2026.
The two special events will provide audiences with the opportunity to hear Larry perform poetry from his own collection alongside works by the literary figures whose lives and work remain so closely connected with the Cumbrian landscape.
Larry’s first appearance, on Wednesday 23 September at Wordsworth Grasmere & Dove Cottage, is an intimate evening which will see Larry in conversation with Tim Robertson, Trustee of the Wordsworth Trust and former Director of the Royal Society of Literature.
As well as performing poems from his own collection, Larry will also read some of Wordsworth’s best-loved works, while discussing his life, career and passion for poetry.
The evening will also give audiences the chance to ask Larry questions and hear more about his journey from one of Britain’s best-known television and theatre actors to a poet drawing on his own experiences and memories.
The event will begin at 6pm and conclude with a drinks reception and meet-and-greet, giving guests the opportunity to meet Larry personally and purchase signed copies of his autobiography, Mummy’s Boy. Tickets are available at wordsworth.org.uk/blog/events/larry-lamb/
Larry will return to Cumbria on Monday 5 October for a special evening at Brantwood in Coniston, the former home of John Ruskin.
Combining supper in The Terrace with poetry and conversation in Brantwood’s beautiful Drawing Room, guests will experience Larry’s work in one of Cumbria’s most atmospheric and intimate literary settings. The evening reunites Brantwood’s Director Howard Hull with Larry. The pair last met to discuss life and poetry together on Ruskin’s bench at Brantwood’s Gold Winning stand at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show earlier this year.

Together, the two events celebrate Cumbria’s enduring contribution to British writing and poetry, bringing Larry’s modern and autobiographical approach into conversation with writers whose work dates back some 200 years ago.
Larry Lamb is one of the UK’s most recognisable actors and presenters, with an extensive career spanning television, film and theatre. He is perhaps best known for his appearances in high-profile BBC productions including EastEnders and Gavin & Stacey, as well as work in film, on Broadway and in London’s West End.
More recently, Larry has turned his attention increasingly towards poetry, drawing on his own life experiences to create deeply personal work. His autobiographical poetry collections are due to be published in 2027.
The upcoming Cumbrian appearances offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience Larry in a more personal setting.
